WELLINGTON RACING CLUB.
STEWARDS' REPORT.' "The stewards bavo pleasure in again congratulating members upon the result of another successful year. So runs the annual report, of the Wellington Kacing Club, to bo submitted to members on September 27. Tho report goes on to state as follows:—From the balance-sheet it will be seen that; although the' club lost one day's racing, the stakes, for tho ■year were only reduced by .£27' as compared with last year. The surplus for the year amounts to ,£3981 18s. lid., from which tho stewards have decided- to write off:—Freehold property and buildings, JEM 63 12s.- -Id.; ' furniture, .£ll9 155.; luncheon and tea-room plant, .£150; office furniture, .£33 14s. Total written off, £3767 Is. 4d. The sum of £211. 17s. 7d. is carried forward. In view of the fact that tho club's racing days have been curtailed by one, nnd that extraordinarily bad weather interfered with the winter mooting, the result will no doubt bo deemed highly : satisfactory. The patronage accorded by owners ond trainers during the past year has shown a satisfnctorv increase. The bank guaranteed account has been paid off during.the year, mid members will be asked at the annual meeting ti pass a cordial vote of thanks to Messrs. J. W. Abbott, Wm. Barton, E. C. Batkin, F. H. D. Bell, A. S. Biss,

NOTES AND COMMENTS.
[Bi Glencoe.] On the Napier, track last week BobriMl! gave one ttf F. Davis's two-year-olds a break and beat it comfortably, over half a mile. Speaking to an onlooker Davis remarked that the black horse had then ■ galloped "as fast as ever he had in. hie me. I-he horse is apparently quite SOU ? d ' a S. d e P ccial mission a' Present m the Champion Plate and Stead wip. ~A 'ocal ownor priced Salubrious during the Marfan meeting, but the owner was not inclined to do business. Allegory was supported in somo quarr,m 01 , ™°™rt New Zealand Onp. It is difficult to know on what form his backers arc supporting the Marton gelding for tso far his form has been moderate in the extreme. It will come ae no surprise to find him missing when the field goes to the post. Coolbcrean, late Tripoli, was heavily in which he finished, third. After tho race Hickey s horse walked away lame, and it is unlikely that he will be able to race at Dannovirko next week, .The last-of the English classics, the St. Loger, will bo decided on Wednesday next. _ Three North Island jockeve-W. Toung, R. Hateh, and S. Reid-will be riding at the Ashburton meeting next week. The first-named has a monnt in each flat rao», but tho other pair are not fullv booked up. _ Amongst outward passengers from 'Wellington by. the weekly Sydney boat yesterday were several who intend remaining in Sydney until the conclusion of the Australian Jockey. Club's meeting at Randwick. The Maitai, which sailed yesterday, had on board Messrs. Lnttrell and Priestnall, of Christchurch, and Mr. A. Owens, owner of Paisano.
Styx was in a rather bad way yesterday as the result of the kick which" he received at Marton, and he could hardly put his near hind leg to the ground. Improbable as the statement may seem, Conquest, who rode Styx, vouches for it that Piriwai kicked under Thrave, «.n<i caught Styx. The unruly Obligado mare also caught several other horses, and finished up by getting the best of the start.
Though the flat season has opened disastrously for backers, those who journey to Dannevirke next week in search of sport will find an attractive bill of fare awaiting them. The programme gives promise of quantity if not exactly of quality, and it mil also be the last opportunity for seeing the steeplechasers in action. The course is in good order, and. everything augurs well for the success of the meeting, to ..which there is no opposition.
Quite a number of New Zealand-bred horses will be racing at the Canterbury Park (Sydney) meeting this afternoon. They include Don Quex, Blackpool, Kcpane, Mundic, Obsono, Monoplane, Lonesome, and San Severe. Mr. H. F. Nieoil has disposed of Sea King to Mr. J. E. Furze. In the Steeplechase at Williamstown on August 24, Bribery was beaten by half a length, but the 30 eovs. he earncdas place money brought his- total stakes up to ■£5036, and thus superseded the previous record, which was Redleap's .£5019. All going well (says the- Sydney "Daily Telegraph ), the 'crack colt of Queensland, Simla, will reach Randivick shortly, in anticipation of his A.J.C. engagements. Simla is engaged in the Metropolitan with 7st. 31b., Caulfield Cup' with 7st. 31b., and Melbourne Cup with 7st. 51b., but he is nlso in theA.J.O. Derby, and it is that race to which his presence will add most interest. Simk, though bred at Hobartville, is owned in Queensland, and, seeing that Wolawa is also eligible, the supposed cracks of two other States are. likely to b? found opposing our own best for' tho richest Derby that ever was run in the Southern Hemisphere. It is olways easy to be wise aftei the event, but when one remembers Blend's latest performances last season, it is surprising that he was allowed to pay euch a false price at Marton on Wednesday. When he won at tho Otaki meeting ho defeated Kilrain and Brown Trout. Then, after winning on the first day of tho Napier Park meeting, he ran second to Amaru'in the Newstead Hack Race. In this latter event, the winner got all the best of tho start, and tlio beaten division included Kgatiiunru, whose subsequent form should have resulted in Blend being made a. warm favouritefor tho race, which lio won at' Marton.
The Otaki Maori Baring Club's privileges, sold on Thursday, realised as fol-low:-Outeide gates, .£139, Mr. Wyatt; outside publican's booth, «C 27, Mr. W. M'Gegg; inside publican's booth, £62. Mr. W. M'Keg-g; outside grandstand, JES 55., Mr. harauti;. horse paddock, JS2 155., Mr. Wntson. " .
