Mr. H. Gillies valued the building and plant of his butter factory at Colyton (which was destroyed by fire a few days ago) at JC1230. There was an insurance of' .£925 in the Victoria office. : Yesterday morning Messrs. Horton ancl Son made a start with their contract for beautifying the lake portion of tho South Street Keserve. It is expected that the work will be completed within six weeks. Sir.-Guy, who has-been a resident of Apiti these twenty-one years, has had enough of the "out back," and has decided to bring his family into closer touch with civilisation. He has sold his farm to Mr. George Hart, of Umutoi, who takes possession next week. Mr; D. H. Guthrie, M.P. for Oroua, arrived here from Wellington' by tho New I Plymouth express yesterday, and proceeded to. Pakihikura to attend tho farewell gathering to Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Hocldy ancl family there. , The Feilding Society for the Prevention of .Cruelty to Animals has elected the following officers for the year:—President, Mrs. J. G.
