By wireless last evening the Union Oo.'s steamer Atua, which is en route from the Islands to Auokland, advised that she would arrive at the northern port at 6 a.m. today. It is anticipated that the Himitangi will bo dispatched from Lyttelton for the Chatham Islands next Monday. Tho French barque Vendee which arrived at Suva on July 18 from New York, with a cargo of oil, etc., for Fiji, Townsvillc, and Rockhampton. left agaiu on Aueust 6 for Townsville. While at Suva the Vendee discharged 12,275 cases of kerosene, 5000 cases of benzine, 150 eases of turpentine, and 50 cases of naphtha, making a total of 17,457 cases. This is one of the biggest consignments of oil iwd benzine discharged at Suva for some time, and oyer £3CCO was paid as duty and wharfage on this shipment. Tho oapacity of a large modern steamer is enormous, as iB shown by the big cargo loaded at New Zealand ports by the Federal-Shire Line steamer Drayton Grange, which left Lyttelton on Saturday morning. The Drayton Grange, which now counts only as a medium-size cargo steamer, had a full cargo loaded ut Lyttelton, Timaru, Bluff, Port Ohalmers, Auckland, ami Wellington, the principal lines being 32,485 carcasses of frozen mutton and lamb, 41,037 sacks of oats, wheat, peas, beans, etc., 10,672 Crates of frozen rabbits (shipped at Bluff and Port Chalmers), 2652 quarters and pieces of beef; 431 pieces of mutton, 657 cases of preserved meats, and 618 bales of licinp and tow. Iu addition there was-,a large quantity of sundries included in the cargo, while the steamer also carried about 3000 tons of bunker coal. On account of having been delayed by rain at Auckland the Tyser lint>r inilrsilema- is not expected at Wellington until Wednesday of next week. The Government steamer Hinemoa. was successful in landing a quantity of small gear for the new lighthouse at Castlepoint yesterday. Tho tower itself could not be landed on account of a heavy sea running. Mapourikn, s.s., arrived at Greymouth from Wellington, via way ports, at 4 a.m. yesterday, and left on the return trip at 5 p.m. : It was originally intended that the Woihora would make Wellington her first port of call from Newcastle, but the Union Company have decided to send her on to Lyttelton. She was expected here to-day, but under the circumstances will not arrive iu port until the latter cud of next week. Shippers are Teonesled to note that the Mokoia, leaving Wellington for the north on Monday next, will take cargo for East Coast bays. This will tic transhipped to the Haupiri at Gishornc. Latest charters include the steamer IforpasrlM, 5866 I0n«. She Is to bring a general cargo from Now York to Australian and New Zealand ports.
