INCIDENT ON THE DEVON. Bt, Telesraph—Press Association-Copjrißhl ,' i"' : ' Brisbane," Septenlber"3.- '' An inquiry has opened regarding an incident which occurred on the steamer Devon, a vessel of 6000 tons gross, of the Federal line, while oft' the South African coast. Captain Robertson stated that he left Durban on July 29, and met a Tough sea. Twenty-two minutes later, just after leaving the bridge, he felt a heavy jolt, but did not know what the vessel had struck. There was nothing showing above the water. Next day the saloon doors were found to be all out cf true position, and the pillars of the 'tween decks buckled.
He reckoned the steamer was in twenty fathoms of water when the incident happened,
