MEMORIAL TO MR.T.G.MACARTHY.

MR.. WILFORD'S PROPOSAL. Various proposnta have been made for the provisions of a memorial to tho Into Mr. T. G. Macarthy, ono of them being that a statue should bo erected in somo public part of the city. Speaking to a Dominion reporter Inst evening, Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., said that no really satisfactory form of memorial to Mr. Macarthy had yet been proposed. A statue, even though it were a food one, would not assist in any great degree to keep Mr. Macarfchy's memory alive. This cud would be much better served, Mr. Wilford continued, if funds were raised by public subscription for tho acquisition or the Day's Bay bush, which could then be set aside as a public reserve, and named "Macarthy's Bush." Mr. Wilford remarked that ho would gladly start a subscription list for this object with a donation of .£10: The project, he added, would havo a reasonable prospect of being carried to a successful issue. There was no question that the money left by Mr. Macarthy was going to do something for every member of tho community. In leaving the money ho had raised no question of creedi or sectarianism, and no doubt all and sundry would gladly co-operate in providing him with a worthy and fitting memorial.
