ANNUAL REFOIfr.
Tho first annual report of tho Clydesdalo Horso Society of New Zealand congratulates members on a very successful year. The membership of the society is now 217, made up us under:—Life governors, 4; life members, 10; annual members, 195; and honorary members, 7. The number of entries received is considered very encouraging, the total to date being 740, made up of 510 mares and 230 stallions. Tho society is fortunate in beginning its career with thrcs challenge cups, two of 50 guineas and oho of 20 guineas value. . Tho conditions under which thcfo will be competed for are as follow:—Conditions of competition for the Union Steam Ship Company's 50gns. challenge cup are similar to those for the Wright, Stophonson Challenge Cup, except that the Union Company s is for mare,s:— The Wright, Stephenson Challenge Cup. (1) This cup is offered by The Clydesdale Iforse Society of N.Z. for the best Clydosdalo stallion or. entire colt registered in the society's stud book, and entered in any of the draught horse classes tit the show or shows at which they may be competed for. (2) The council of tho society shall decide at what show or shows tho challenge cups shall be competed for in the year immediately following. (3) No stallion rising four years old or upwards will be allowed to compete for this cup unless proof be furnished to satisfy a- committee appointed for the purpose by the council of tho Clydesdale Horse Society that he has during the preceding season left at least 35 per oent. of tho mares served by him in foal. (4) Tho winners must bo certified by a Government veterinary surgeon to. bo free from certain hereditary diseases and defects. (5) The cup must 1 be won four times by an exhibitor, with a different animal each time (but not necessarily in consecutive years), before it becomes his absolute property. (6) No animal which has won, and whose name has been engraved on the clip, will be eligible to compete. (7) The winner of the cup, other than the absolute winner, shall surrender the <-ame to Hie society when called upon to do so. (8) Until (lie cup bo won outright, tho winner will receive the society's silvor medal ns memento of his winning the cup.
Thle Wai-Kongoa Challenge Cup.-(l) This cup is offered by tho society for the best brood mnre registered in the society's stud book with not less than two foals or one foal at foot, and showing in fcal,- . bloom or condition not to bo considered. (2) Age 6 (six) years or over. (3) To be examined by two Government veterinary surgeons and pronounced'free from specified hereditary diseases or any defect in conformation which might, predispose to unsoundness, defective action, or not being up to a reasonable standard of conformation or breeding. (4) The cup to be won three times by one, exhibitor, with different anirnnls, not necessarily in consecutive years, before it' becomes his absolute property. (5) No animal which has won, and wh<j=e name has been engraved on the cup, will be eligible to compete. Tho Union Steam Ship Company's Cup has been accepted for competition at the Palinerston North-Show, from October 30 to November 1. The Wright, Stephenson Cup has been offered for competition at the Otago Society's Horse Parade, September. 26. The/Wai-Rongoa Cup at the Otrigo A.' and P. Society's Summer Show.
