It was expected thai phe would clear the Toe-mania-n port for Wellington on Thursday morning, and she should arrive here on Monday nest. APAKIMA AT AUCKLAND. . An arrival at Auckland from Calcntto, via- way ports, yesterday morning, was the Union Company's tramp steamer Aparimo-. The vessel may be looked for here about the end of this week.
NIWARTJ ARRIVES HOME. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co., local agents for the Tyser Line, have received advice announcing the arrival of the Niwa.ru at London on Friday last. She takes the loading berth at West of England ports for New Zealand, and is fchoduled to sail from Liverpool about October 28.
THE WAIHATJ • BAR. Word , was received in Wellington yesterday to the effect that the attempt which had been made to make a new entrance to the Walrau Eiver had becu a failure. Tho recent floods in the Opawa 'end Wairau Hivere. it was considered, had improved the old channel, but it would not be definitely known until .to-day whether this would he workable or not. It was considered ' probahle that the Blenheim, which, has been tied up at Blenheim for sorao considerable tiuo past, would leave for Wellington to-morrow. Tho Opawa, which has been on the "lay up" berth at Wellington for a. few weeks, left for Blerilioiin last night. PAPAROA CO.'S PURCHASE. , The Paparoa Coal Company has purchased tho well-known iron barque Helen Denny (now on her way to Sydney) for hulk purposes.
Captain Baldwin, • late of the Kowhai, was in Wellington yesterday. He assumes command of tho Karanni shortly. Mr. ; A. E. Wicks, chief engineer of the Mapourika, left the vessel at Wellington yretorday. . , The PiikaM was ready to put to sea. from Wostport at noon yesterday. A heavy sea on the bar, which Fhowed signs of increasing, prevented this, however. Tho Komata is expected to clear Westport for Wellington at 1 p.m. to-day. Arahura, s.s., arrived at Greymouth from Wellington, via way ports, at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, and left on tho return trip at, 11 p.m. After having been detained some time at Newcastle 'waiting for coal, and also a berth to load at, tho Union Company'e collier Waihora cleared Newcnstlo for Wellington at 9 p.m. on Saturday. Port should be made about Friday next. The Koonya. leavos Wellington for Greymonth to-day, and the Katoa for Auckland to-morrow. The Kittawa stiiled for Greymouth last evening. The Klni is expected to leave Grcymouth for Lyttelton to-day. Latest reports concerning tho Haupiri were that shp was at Waipiro Bay yesterday, and thr.t the weather was too ba.d to allow of any work being done. . Her next port of call will ho Waipare Bay, then Gisborne, and Wellington-. It was not known when tho Haupiri would reach this port. The Kosamond left OnehunKa, for Wellington direst at noon yesterday, and should show up here this evening. Sho leaves at 6 p.m. to-morrow for Picton, Now Plymouth, aud Onehunga. It has not been decided whether the Wairuna. will "buuker" at Lyttolton or Wellington before proceeding to Suva- to load susar for Auckland.
