HE. SAMUEL COLERIDGE-TAYLOR. 9j Tcieitrapli'-Presa Association—Oopyrliril (Rec. September 2, 10.30 p.m.) . London, September 2. The death is announced of Mr. Sanvuel Doleridgo-Taylor, the composer.
The late Mr. Samuel Colerdige-Taylor was'an Anglo-African, his father being a West African and hie mother an Englishwoman. . He was born in 1875, and entered tho Royal Collego of Music in 1891, where, ho studied under Professor Villiers Stanford. After leaving college he was commissioned to write for 1 three choir festivals.' His works last year had reached the opus numbsr of 59, and included part of Longfellow's poem, "Hiawatha," three sections of which he set to music as a cantata; "The Blind Girl of CastelCuille," and "Meg Blaine," by Buchanan; "The Atonement," a sacred cantata; a volume of twenty-four negro melodies for , the pianoforte; choral ballads for chorus arid orchestra; musics to Stephen PhillipsV'Nero"; a rhapsody, "Endymioift Dream," for soli, chorus, and orchestra.

The Jate Lady Francis nope was a daughter of Mr. George H. Thompson, banker, of Melbourne. She divorbett her first husband, and in 190-4 was married to Lord Francis Pelham-Clinton-Hope, a brother of tho present Duke- of Newcastle and heir presumptive to the dukedom. Ten years previously, at tho ago of 28, Lord Francis Hope had married Miss May Yohe," the actress, whom ho divorced in 1002. Lady Francisi Hope leaves a sort born in 1907 who is the second heir to tbe .dukedoni.
AN AUSTRALIAN EXPLORER. (Rec. September 2, 11.25 p.m.) " Adelaide, September 3. Mr. W. V. Auld, who accompanied Mr. U'Donald Stewart,- the explorer, in his expedition of 1861 across Australia, is dead.
