SCHEME FOE REORGANISATION,

The public schqpl cadets have been temporarily placed under the control of Mr. jr. H. lirown, Chief Director of| Manual and Technical Instruction. The for Defence and Education (the Hon. James Allen) stated yesterday that ho could not yet say definitely what the final arrangements would be for the direction of the training of public school boys. "The whole matter is being very carefully considered by mo now," lie said, "and 1 intend to reorganise the whole Department completely. lam getting advicefrom those competent to adviso as to tho. nature of the physical training boys and girls of public school age should receivo to make them physically fit to becomo ,good citizens, nnd, in the case of the boys, to become good soldiers. I'propose to inako scientific physical exercises the basis of tho training. Probably the biergor hoys will be required to do some miliiary drill —squad drill, and perhaps a little company drill. As to the scheme of training'best adaptable, I hope tn get Iho advice, of a medical man, a physical drill expert, the Inspector-General of Schools, and someone from tho military side. The Minister added in reply to another question that no change was contemplated in tho course of training to which senior cadets \yonld bo subjected. They would certainly not be attached to Territorial companies, as had been rumoured.
