Tho balance-sheet of the Stratford Racing Club shows that the' assets exceed tho liabilities by more than .£SOOO.
A satisfactory profit oil tho past year's operations lias been made by the Hutt Valley Trotting Club, which is tho only body which caters for Wellington trotting enthusiasts. .The club opened the season with a balance of ,£228, which had increased to .S2S7 by July 31 last. Principal items of incomo during tho year wero: Totalisator, X'2l7; nominations and acceptances, ,£IG7; Rates, ,£125; members' subscriptions, .£32 Is.; and cards, «£24. On the expenditure side the more important items were: Stakes, «£310; Government tax, .£76; salaries and honorariums, .£52; printing and advertising, #J0; rent, «£ls; and sundry other items totalling nearly .£7O. The assets total over ,£3OO, while tho liabilities are nil.
At tho annual meeting of members of the Stratford Racing Club, held last week, the president (Mr. A. W. Budge) announced that the guarantors had reappointed Messrs. S. Pitt and I). J. Malone to the committee. Elections resulted : President, Mr. A. W. Budge (re-elect-ed); vice-president, Mr. W. H. H. Young (re-elected); committeeman, Mr. ,T. F. Watson (re-elected); auditors, Messrs. S. H.. James and L. Riera. (re-elected).

Association as a special prizo in the horse section; to substantially increase the stakes in tho four open events at the forthcoming 1 meeting; toconsider improving the entrance to the racecourse and to formulate a general and continuous method of improvements to the club's property.

anil breaking his neck, was killed instantaneously, whilo Cro.-sways, an aged goldingr by 01 valid Cross, met with such severs injuries that he had to bo destroyed.
There were twa doublo winners at Aniherlev, Hesiono winning tho Kowai Hack Handicap and the Waipara Hack Handicap, whilo Gamester was successful in tho principal event ot tho day, the Brackenfiold Plate, and later on catno out and won tho Hack Steeplechase.
Oa tho strength of his form at the Grand National Moating, St.. Kevin was sent out a warm favourite for the, lint-die Handicap at Amberley, but at tho finish ho was outstayed by Daylight Bill, a half-brother by Stronghold to Gwendoline.
Margo, who won tho Hunters' Flat Handicap and ran i-c-wnd in tho Welter Handicap at 'Amberley, is a half-sister bv Treadmill to Seadog, a New Zealandbred steopleehawr, who showed good form in Victoria last season.
Phroso, winner of tho Ladies' Bracelet at the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club meeting, is an Australian-bred more by Sir Tristram—Zaroba. She is owned by Mr. G.. F. Mcdi-p, of tho Bushy Park stud, and is trained by A. Hall, at Wanganui. Mr. Monro also started Sammy, who ran third to Gondolier, and Riro Atu in tho Hunt Club Otip.
Though they were only one-day meetings, very big fields will bo seeo. out in tho different events at Morton and Danrevirko.
At the Warwick Farm meeting on August 21, C. Emerson .won tho Liverpool Mile on, Fortius,- who was a liend in front of Sir. F. Merton's representative, Vanquisher. Horses owned by the gentleman named have appeared unablo to run into any better place than second for months past, and ho must bo growing rather weary of t'lio turn of events. Sydney papers accord pronounced praise to Emerson for his riding. 8.. Dceley' was in tile saddle at tho same meeting, but did not rido a winner.
The Otaki Maori. Racing Club is making every endeavour to make its winter meeting even more successful than any of its predecessors, and a number of improvements have lieen effected in connection with the course- and its surrouudings.' Drainage and top-dressing lias been done where needed, and accommodation for tho public has been improved.
