A. & T. BURT, LTD.
We have to acknowledge tho receip t of a very handsome brochure issued by Messrs. A. and T. Burt. Ltd., in celebration of the jubilee of the firm, the business of which, commenced in a small way in Dunedin in ISG2, now spreads throughout the Dominion. Tho brochure, which is freely illustrated, gives an interesting review of the steady growth of the business of iron and brass founders, engineers, and sanitary plumbers, and concludes with the following statement:—
"Tli'o magnitude of the company's operations may bo gauged from tho fact that in this, thu year nf their jubilee, it maintains, in addition to its main establishment'in Dunedin, five branches, exelusive of a marine repairing branch at I'ort Chalmers, and of which two cf (lie branches embrace manufacturing and. repairing work. No information could intelligently convoy to the reader the output resultant from its operations, as its work, being of such a varied character, renders it somewhat difficult for comparison; but, from the year of the inception ( of the business in 1562, until the present time, it lias hardly known a period when it has ceased from its policy of progression. No doubt this is in keeping with tho history of a young colony, and it may bo further added that its inception and rise is. practically analogous to the progress cf New Zealand, and that, as, a commercial institution in keeping with tho industries of New Zealand, it resembles (lie latter in' almost all its aspects during tho fifty years, 1862 to 1912."
