BRITAIN AND TIBET.
SIR JOHN JORDAN'S MEMORANDUM. 3y Telegraph—Pres9 Ansociatlon— Copyrfeht (Rec. September 1, 5.5 p.m.) Peking, August 31. The memorandum of Sir John Jordan, British Minister at Peking, states that any attempt to re-establish'Chinese-' authority in Tibet would violate'the AngloChinese Treaty, of 1906. ' Britain fully recognises Chinese., suzerainty, and disclaims any intention of. interfering with Tibet's, integrity as regards administration. Britain does not cor/sent to ( the assertion of .Chinese sovereignty over a State enjoying independence through a treaty with Britain.
The Chinese declare that- the expedition now engaged on the borders of Szechuan tad never been ordered to Tibet. (Rec. September 2, 0.20 a.m.) New York, September 1. The United States does not intend to appose action in forwarding a Note to China, demanding to be consulted; before action is taken in Tibet.
