Y.W.C.A. Notes. Miss Barnes is expected to arrive In Wellington from her northern visit 6ome time during tlio next week. Preparations for the Antarctic bazaar aro proceeding briskly, and everyone appears to bo working for its success with tho utmost enthusiasm. Preparations for the approaching "Know Your Own City" Conference, which opens on Saturday, September 7 (tho day after tho conclusion of the bazaar), are well in hand, and much interest is expressed concerning it by many of tho women who are working in tho different social organisations in Wellington. It is hoped that by theso workers conferring together as it is iiroposed that they shrink! do, a still moro comprehensive scheme of work may result, and all women who have interested themselves in any form of social work at nil , aro invited to attend. Mrs. A. B. Atkinson will preside, and Miss Barnes will have some interesting matter' to put forward. Port Nicholson Yachting Club Ball. St. Peter's Schoolroom in Ofliuzneft Streot had beeji beautifully decorated for tliii annual ball of Ule j.'ort Nicholson Yachting Club, held there last evening.' Scarlet and black, the club's colours, predominated everywhere, a draping of scarlet, edged with black, being carried all round tho walls with frira-uta client,while abovo it wcro trails, of lycopodiumwith flags still further concealing tho walls. Numbeis of flags suspended from tho roof, added still more colour .to tho decorative scheme, and nil tho lights wcia covered with scarlet shades and tiny trails of lycopodium. Hopes of tlit. same creeping plant wore carried from corner to corner oi tho ceiling, and palms aud : still more scarlet and black drapings decorated tho stage, which luid been com-' fortably furnished for the non-dancers. It is not often tliat, a lifebuoy, liglithoi.il,. anchor, electric fan, wheel, etc., to say nothing of other yachting equipment, have the opportunity of figuring at a dance, but last evening tliey were largely in evidence and were most certainly decorative. Non-Commissioncd Officers' Ball. Tho socolid annual ball of tho Wellinglon Garrison Non-Commissioned Officers Club took place in tho Sydney Street. Schoolroom last evening, and was a highly successful function. . . About thirty officers were present, including Lieut-Colonel C., Haramrt Turlier (commanding tho Fifth Regiment), and Major R. St. J. Beero (l'lftli Regiment). Mrs. Bcere and Miss Turner were also present.
