THE HOUSE
PHARMACY BILL, The House of Representatives mot at 2.30 p.m. Tho Hon. R. H.' RHODES gave noticc to introduce the Pharmacy Bill. A MISLAID PETITION. Mr. L. M. ISITT (Christchiirch' North) raised a qnrstion about a petition from Mrs. Sandstein, of Christchiirch, which was reported upon by the M to 7, Petitions Committee ou Wednesday. Mr. Isitt said '■ that he wished to ask the guidance of the Speaker as to his procedure in view of an extraordinary position that had arisen in regard to a petition, from Mrs. Sand-stein, which he had presented to the House. On August. 23 the M to 7, Committee recommended tlmt the petition should ho referred to the Government, for favourable consideration. At that juncture tile Minister for Marine intervened to remark that another petition—from one Haynes—was then under consideration, and that the Sandstein petition should be allowed to stand over in order that the two petitions could he considered together. To this lie (Mr. Isitt) agreed. It now appeared that the Minister for Marine had been absolutely misinformed. No petition from Haynes had been presented. Finally, Mr. Isitt asked . tho Speaker to adviso him as to the procedure he should adopt in order to have the report of the M to Z Committee reinstated. ' Tho Hon. F. M. B. FISHER agreed that an extraordinary position had arisen. Ha had received correspondence- in connection with the Haynes petition, and when he spoke in the House on Wednesday be did so under tho impression that the Haynes petition was before the A to L Committee. Ho believed that the member for Avon was -of the same opinion. Mr. G. W. RUSSELL (Avon) said that when the Minister for Marine mentioned a second petition tho other day, he (Mr. v Russell) was under the impression that tho petition _ ha'd been 'presented. It seemed to him that it was quite open to tho same committee to report again. Mv. Isitt said that he was contrat to let the matter rest, provided that Haynes did not put in a petition. Mr. SPEAKER "said that the petition (the Sandstein petition) had been referred back to the JI to Z Committee for consideration. No doubt when tho facts mentioned in the House were brought under its notice the committee would ta-ko tho necessary action and re-submit its report.
