THE SHOW SEASON.
HAWKFS BAT GATHERING. 'A : reminder" , that the agricultural and pastoral show season is at hand is. the t< receipt of tho programme of tho Hawko's 1! Bay. Agricultural nnd Pastoral Society's 'ii annual spring show, which, as usual, "opens' the ball," so far as New Zealand agricultural shows are concerned. The E show: is to be held this year on October K 16 and 17. Without any very great flour- E ish of trumpets, but in a steadily pro- N gyessive manner, the Hawkc's Bay Asmciation has worked its way into tho nosi- « tion of being one of the best, as well j; as one of the oldest, shows in. the Domin- V ion. ',The association is not content to V run along in one groove, nnd wherever '* improvements in the schedule are sug- A gested by breeders or exhibitors these are generally carried out. In this year's £ schedule there are no fower than thir- T teen additional classes as compared with G last year'a schedule.' Perhaps the most l< noticeablo increase is the additional en- ?, couragoment now offered *to Romney breeders who now have twelve classes provided for- them, as against nine -.ireviously. The importance of the frozen meat industry has not been overlooked, n and this section of the show has now two 5 extra classes added to it. In the horse } : section the most noticeable alteration is h that in both tho draught aud thorough- t. bred divisions ; t.wo-year-olds are now clip- fi lble for championship honours. In the J light horse section there is an additional Xl class for mnro or gelding best suited for ? mounted rifiVs. In the cattle section an a extra class has been added for grade o Shorthorn cow, in milk. In the' dog I classes the New Zealand Koimel Clnb's 6 challenge certificates for both dog and ,: bitch, will be awarded at this show. s J 'the hawera snow. i The annual spring show of the Hawera f t\. nnd P. Association is set down for \ November 20 and 21 this year, a fortnight i later than the last fixture. As usual at P this show, cattle will receive special nt- ' tention, and with tho addition of the l New Zealand Jersey Breeders' Association's nnd the New Zcnlnml Ayrshire -\ Breeders' Association's gold • champion c medals, tho classes should be unusually t attractive.
