9 A QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. I - In the House of Representatives yostotv day, Mr. G. W. Russell (Avon) asked whether tho Prime Minister would inako a statement to tho House, about tho date of tho Egmont election. Ho had hoard that tho writ was issued for such an. early dato as to preclude (ho possibility of a second ballot, and tho return of absent voters' permits. Tho Hon. \V. V. Mnssey (Primo Minister) said ho had taken no part in tho matter except to move for tho issuo of tho writ. 110 had not interfered with the Chief Electoral Officer, and ho did not oven now know the dato fixed. Mr. Russell informed him that it was September 17.
