*- (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) { [ Palmcrston, August 2". I A somewhat serious accident happened ' to Mr.. J. Batchelar, of Fitzherbsrt, this '■ morning. He wa = driving into town, ! and was crossing the big bridge over the , Manaivatc Kiver, leading into Paliuer- • ston, when the horse took fright, and the ■ vehicle collided with the side of the struc- . ture. Mr. Batchelar was thrown out, I and' suffered from concussion for a time, t besides sustaining several severe cuts and , bruises. Both shafts of the g'S ,verH ] smashed, and the horse galloped into town f with portions of thorn dangling on either » side. It was, however, caught before 1 anything further happened. Another vehicle accident of an even i more serious nature happened at Pohanga, t a couple of days ago. A horse in a trap f driven bv Miss Spelman stumbled whilst s going down a hill, the young lady and s her mother being thrown out, and the fori nw-r bavinz her arm broken.
