HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting' of'tho Lower Htitt Borough Council was hold last evening. Those present were:—The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Buuny), and Councillors llobbs, Ball, Cleiidon, Roots, ICcmpthor'ne, Hodgins, Knight, and Hawthorn. The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that a lease of the Hall-Jones Settlement was not advisable for twelve months, as it was the intention of the Department to let grazing rights from week to week or mouth to month.—Received. The Valuation Department forwarded a certificate for payment of .£ll2 10s,, tbo balance of subsidy on rates.—Received. The Institute of Local Government Engineers of New Zealand asked tbo council's co-operation by giving facilities to their engineer to attend conferences, etc.—Granted. Mr. Percy made application for a gas service to his property.—deceived. In regard to an application for n watei service, Mr. Stevenson, on behalf of Mr. Welters, wrote stating that Uio ownei would boi quite willing to pay the cost, of agreement.—Received. The Fire Brigade reported on various tests made by them in respect of water pressure.—Received. The Town Clerk at Foxtnn asked that information might be supplied in regard to artesian water supply and pumping plant.—Agreed to. Dr. Purely reported having made inquiries into recent reported cases of diphtheria. He stated niat there was nothing in the nature of an epidemic to fear. , Considering the wet weather in the past cases of this nature were almost suro to ocqur.—Received.
