RUMOUR STILL BUSY. ; (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent) Wanganul, August 24. Rumour is again busy with the pros, pncts of AVilliam Webb, ex-cliampioa sculler, emerging from liis retirement. 4 few days ago it was stated, 011 what soenu cd to do good' authority, that ho would issue a Challenge to Barry, but Pearce, the Australian champion, forestalled him. It is bolievcd by those "in tho know" here, however, that there is little likelihood of ft between Pearce and Barry for some time to come, especially as it is understood that negotiations are going on for a raco between the world's champion and Durnan, the Canadian. It is now suggested that, a match may probably bo arranged, to take placo about November, between Webb and Pearce, the winner to go Homo and meet Barry. Webb is reported to be in' very good fettle at present, and his friends aro convinced that he can get back to his best form, and turn tho tables on Pearce, who, it will bo remembered, defeated him some, what easily closo on two years aco.
