UNDER PLEASANT CONDITIONS. SENIOR RESULTS. 'Karori ';'...;.;....;... * Metropolitan •...,. 0 United 2 Govt. Insurance 0 College 4 Wesley 1 Hockey plnyora had no coinplaini against t'ho weather on Saturday, for thi conditions were simply ideal. Tho form shown in tho games al.;o was very satisfactory, for all three senior contests were ; fast and interesting. KAKORI-METROPOLITAN. Karori nmply proved they wore the better team of tho two by their decisive victory over Mteropolitan. Tho game was & played on No. 1 ground, Day's Bay, the contest proving interesting throughout. From tho initial "bully" tho Blocks booarao aggressive, and R. Pnrton (who was taking leader's place on tho left-wing) at once showed up. - They continued to press, and Metropolitan were forced _to concede a, corner. Only tho fine defonsive play of M'Gregor shielded tho Reds' goal at this stage, for Karori peppered away hotly.: M'Kellop banged and just missed, I but shortly afterwards R. Pnrton .sent in a swift and successful shot. Karori, J—o. Tho Reds now attacked, and from a.long passing shot, the ball went tho length ol tho field, but C. Davies hit right back, and the chanco was gone. The Blacks were still playing tho better hockey, and .) from a in tho circle G. Davies, coming up fast, whipped in a goal and ~ his side was two up. Play now hovered about, the Karori forwards several times » sweeping right down the field. M'Gregor, ' was always there, aid saved grandly time , after time. ' ... After half-time Karori assumed the Aggressive, and the gamo became crisp and f bright, and tho pace warm. Tho Blacks i came down tho right-wing, and M'Killop centred finely, and G. Davies being handy, i sent in a warm «hot. • Karori, 3—o. Metropolitan' now livened, and the Davies Bros, had a busy time. Still, although tho Reds '" were playing hard, they lacked the necessary combination, and several times good chances of scoring were lost through some player not following his club-mnto up. Eventually Karori worke up again, and ' ■ Henderson, securing in the circle, sent in a warm shot, nnd'the Blacks' win was as- ' .sured. Still keeping in tho circle, Karori pressed hard, and M'Gregor giving ."sticlts," a penalty bully ensued. Karori, however, this chance. The call of ' time left tho i suburbanites winners by four goals to nothing. Mr. J. YV. Gcndall was referee. UNITED-GOVERNMENT LIFE. No. 3 ground, Day's Bay, was tho venue :•; of the contest botweon United and Gov- .' eminent Life Insurance. It was expected ;. that Government Life.would be easily defeated, but suoh was not the case. In fact, they played realty well, and showed that they have recently been training to ' more account. If they continue to improve they will- doubtless win a match ere the season closes. From the jump the game was fast, and the Blues eeemed out for business. M'Eldowney, however, proved a suro defender, and kept them out of the •danger zone. United now attacked in turn, but Williams staved them off, and play returned to United's 25. Hero Stur : rock and M'CJintock worked well together, but were beaten out of the circle. . United: how attacked more strongly, and - -gi-adually worked their way. down to tho Blues' circle, where Boyd secured and sent in a goal. Half-time was called with United one up. Play ..in the second half was very even, Government Life Insurance having hard , luck in ~'not securing even ono goal. Several times M'Lintock made fino runs, but was unsupported. Towards tho ■ end Andrews capped off a fino passingrun, and the Reds left the field winners by 2 goals "to. nil. • Mr. Manning was referee. COLLEGE-WESLEY. Victoria College and Wesley teams met at Karori, and a lively combat ensued, ending in the Collegians running out victors by a margin of four goals. Wesley nevertheless showed what good material they havo, for .some of their attacks were splendid- pieces- of play. They have, hgwever, yet to .learn tho- finishing touches, which are' so necessary for goal-getting. They attaoked at tho start, and Biirbidge and Rountrea were busily defending. Sovornl times they went near scoring, but then the Stracks would seize the ball and frequently finish np. with a score. The first goal came from C. Strack's stiok, a quarter of an hour after play had begun. This reverse livened up the Blues, for they attacked strongly, Koys, Plavcll, and Birch being associated in a rush. The Collegians now took a hand at attacking, the result being that G. Stra'ck secured a fine goal, thus placing the'Collego two goals in the lead. Wesiey now attacked strongly, and eventually Birch secured on tho edge of tho circle and goaled >in good style. Half-time was called, i ' ■ . As the second spell wore on it was evident that the Collegians were playing tho more finished game, for their passing was very accurate. They managed to pierco Wesley's defence on two imorc occasions as, before:timo sounded,'both 0. Strack and Beene each sent in a goal, and College left'the field winners by 4 goals to 1. Mr. C. P. M'Kcnzie was referee. v JUNIOR HOCKEY. K.Y.M.I. defeated St. Mark's by i goals to 2. Karori, 5 goals, defeated Wellington, 1 goal.
