LABOUR-RATHER NEW IDEA.
QUITE ANTI-SYNDICAL. (By TelCfraph.'-ProEs Association.) Auckland, August 22. The evident desire to avoid a strike ns a method of eettling industrial disputes is the outstanding feature of the new domands drawn up by the Auckland and Suburban Bodies Union. Members of the organisation named met on Tuesday last, and hnally agreed upon a schedule of proposed conditions. This wn9 submitted to the various local bodies concerned to* day, with a request for a conference to deal with all disputes. It is proposed In tho schedule that an advisory board should be appointed by employers and employees, this board to consist of an equal number of each, and to bo presided over and called together when necessary by tho Mayor of Auckland for tho time Leing. ...'■' '
There is one particular olauso in the proposals submitted which is noteworthy as being the , first practical effort of'ail organised Labour body to definitely dis» sociato itself from syndicalism ana rely solely upon conciliatory methods. Tho clause referred to provides that, should any dispute ariso which the advisory board cannot settle, tho employees concerned shall not cease work, but shall remain in their employment under protest, pending its settlement by the Conciliation or Arbitration Court. Instead of the customary "preference to uuionists" proviso, tho schedule contains a clause to the effect that employers shall have tho undisputed right of employing whoever they think fit, irrespec-* the of whether they aro members of the union or not, provided that all menso ployed shall join tho union within one calendar month.
