MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
1 THE AUGMENTED TRAM FAKES. The fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held at the local Town Hall last evening. The Major, 'Mr. H. M'Leod, was in the chair, and Councillors Bowie, Telford, Stone, and Grigg were also present. The chief business beforo the council arose out of a motion put before the councir by Councillor Grigg. The motion was as follows:—"That a special committee be set up to consider the question of tramway and water-way traffic for the district, and that the committee iie empowered to confer with the directors of the Harbour Ferries Company rs ferry services to the Miramar, Seatonn, and TCaraka Bay Wharves, and with the Eastbourne Borough Council re the purchase of ferry boats suitable to both the, Miramar and Eastbourne districts, uid that the committee report generally as to what steps cau be taken to secure a' reduction of the present high tinmwav fare." The matter was discussed at sonic length, and the universal fare system was fully gone into. By this system passeu gcrs may ride from terminus to terminus or any distance thereof for lid. by t ekct or for 2d. by cash. The lid." tickets iujy 1)0 sold at Is. 6d. per dozen. By this method it was pointed out the revenue might bo greatly increased. Tho -Mayor said that it was not the council's wish to criticise the management of the City Council, but. the increa.-cd cost of access to Miramar warranted stops being taken. A committee, consisting of tho whole council, and a sub-committoe, consisting of the Mayor and Councillors Bov.'ic and Origg, was set up, in accordance with Councillor Grigg's motion. The motion was carried.
