FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Wellington City Council was held last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. 15. M'Laren), and Councillors \V. H. 1\ Barber, R. Fletcher, L. Tho tender of Messrs. Stewart and Company for tho manufacture of two threelight plant frames for the Botanical Gardens, Xl 5, was accepted. Eighty beef slides were authorised to bo procured for use at' the Municipal Abattoir, and also the following works.— The rooiiiig-over of the vnco along which Hie sheep are driven; the construction of about 200 feel: of Gin. drain piping to convey the water from. the hill, which, in wet weather, floods the space I'.djaeent lo the Leet' slaughterhouse. The By-Laws Committee recommended that'"as it has been reported flint tho Plumbers' Registration Bill is crude and indefinite, and takes away the control of the local authorities, it should bo opposed in its present form." In connection with a recent petition pro.-cjiteil to the council bv certain resident* in the vicinity of .N'e\v!o;vn t';lrk, the Reserves Committee reported that it had visited the piece of Town Belt ailjoining the Zoo which was being used for a donkey grazing ground, and it rtcommended 'that' the petitioners, who a s ked that (he donkeys be shifted from the paddock, be informed that the eonnc.il could not see its way to accede to the request, as at the present time there is no other suitable ground available. The request of the Hauler Plumber*' Association that its secretary be permitted to obtain information from the City Engineer's Department concerning the plumbing and draining permits i--,ued. was refused. The following tenders were accepted:— Supply of steel pipes for AVndestown and Northland drainage systems, the Spiral and Lock-Bar Steel Company of New Zealand; supply of transformers, Messrs. P. It. Bnillie and Company; supply of tentrifugal pipes, 11. S. King (agenl for Messrs. Walker and Plntt).
