FERRY STEAMERS.
EASTBOURNE COUNCIL PROPOSES TO ACT.' ; Yesterday it was dccided by the members of tho Eastbourno Borough Council to accept an offer to purcliaso tho ferry steamers Duchess and Cobar, mado tiy tho Wellington Steam Ferry Company, subject to tho approval of tho ratepayers, as expressed at a poll. Mr. Shortt (Mayor of Enstboutne) was asked yesterday on what terms tho two steamers had been offered to tho council, but replied that he did. not. wish, to disclose that at present.. The poll will be taken in about a month's time. The Duchcis is a steel scrow steamer of 308 tons cross and 95 tons not register. Kho was built in 1897 by Mackio and Thomson, Glasgow. Her dimensions avo: Length, 133.Gft.; breadth, 26ft. j and depth, 10.3 ft, Cobnr is a. wooden scrcw steamer of 159 gross tons, and 5S tons not register. She was built in 1903 by G. Do Fraine, Sydney. Her dimensions are: Length, 1i3.3ft.; breadth, 24.9 ft.: and depth, 10.1 ft.
