RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
LIGHT LATERAL LINES. (By Telceraph.—l'reES Association.) Pahiatua, August 20. A deputation of delegates from various local bodies fit this and surrounding districts will wait upon the Hon. W. Frnser (Minister for Public Works) at Wellington on Friday afternoon, to urge tho opening up of the Wellington East Const district by tho construction of light lateral lines. Tho deputation will comprise delegates from l'ahiatua Borough and County Councils and tho District Progressive . Association, Palmerston North Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce, and Damievirko Borough Counoil and Chamber of Commerce. Tlio deputation will urge the construction of tlio following light feeder lines, aggregate iug Bli mites, iu preference to over 100 miles of heavy line under tho MastcrtonWaipukurau loop-lino schemeDannevirke to Weber, 20 miles; Pahiatua to Pougaroa, 30 miles; Eketahuna to Alfredton, 12 miles; Mastorton to Taueru, 12 miles; Featherston to'Martinborough, 12 miles.
