WHAT ATTITUDE TO HIS OFFICER? (By Teleeraph.—Pres» Association.) Gore, August 20. On the resumption of tho hearing of the court-martial (commenced on-Friday) to-day, Sergeant-Major-Instructor Horace Sutton, of the New Zealand Permanent Staff and a soldier of this New Zealand Defence forces, was charged with conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, in that {in the Defence office at Gore on Tuesday, July 30, in -the hearing of Quartermaster-Sergeant Graham, when ordered by Captain Glendining to proceed to Balfour to make that place his headquarters as from August 1), he replied: I refuse to do so," or words to that effect. Captain Hickey, D.5.0., appeared as prosecutor, and Mr. Cochrano was counsel for the accused. Captain Hickey was asked to give evidence as to accused's character, but Mr. Cochrano objected, stating that the case for the prosecution had been closed. This, however, was overruled. Captain Hickcy then read a statement detailing the date on which accused was 6worn in. There were no entries on the conduct sheet against him, and lie was entitled to pay us a sergeant-major to date. Cross-examined, witness said that he did not known anything of Sntton's record in the Imperial Army. *■' The Court subsequently considered its verdict, which will be submitted to headquarters. Meantime Sutton is still under open arrest.
