A peculiar ease which conic before the local Magistrate's Court last week, and was adjourned till to-day had an unusual sequel, A girl, IS years of ago, named Annio Steel Hamilton, had come from Tiiihape nino months ago, and, since that time, had been wandering round Hastings and surrounding district attired in male clothes. She was charged with this offence last week, and, to-day, it was anannounced that a certain young man was willing to marry her. Under the circumstances the request of the police for permission to withdraw the case was granted. FEILDING. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. M'T.can, of Waif.una West, have just returned home from u. holiday trip to Australia. "Men are so independent nowadays," said the road overseer to the Kiwitea County Council, when discussing the possibility of getting good work from the county road grader, "you cannot show them anything, and you dare not tell them anything. If you do they will jump down your throat, and tell you pretty quickly to do the work yourself." Farmers in the Feilding district, who have been crutching their ewes, report that indications are in favour of a very good lambing return for the coming spring. It is anticipated the average will be better than that of last year. Tho season also promises well in regard to feed. - OTAKI. Of the eleven pupils presented by Nurse Lewis for their first aid examination, ten passed, one securing- S9 marks out of 100. The lads (all pupils of the local . Native College) were examined by an Invercargill doctor CARTERTON. The Wairarapa P. and A. Society have decided not to hold a horse parade this year. The annual meeting of shareholders of the Dalefield Dairy Company was held on Saturday. The report and balancesheet was read and adopted. Messrs. J. H. August and Jos Udy were appointed directors in place of Messrs. Tunniclilfe and 11. G. Welch, tho latter not offering himself for re-election on account of his approaching departure from the district. At a subsequent meeting of directors, Mr. Knutson,was re-elected chairman. A committee has been appointed by the Wuirarapa P. and A. Society to pet with the Carterton Tradesmen's Association in a movement to have Carterton recognised as a stock centre.
