GOUNOD'S REDEMPTION.
The music-loving portion of the.city will have an opportunity of hearing Gounod's "Redemption" on Friday evening at the Town • Hall. The beautiful Redemption theme, which serves as the principal material of the opening of the symphony of the first ononis, "Tho Earth'is My Possession" is a piece of rich melody which lingers in the memory with a strange clinging power.. It is met frequently throughout the work—where tho angel hails Mary a "Gratia Plena," in the prayer, "Pardon their sins, My Father," where the .thief on tho oross hears the words, "To-day thou shalt be with Me in Paradise," and notably, like a great paean of triumph, where it is introduced fortissimo in the orchestra at the close of tho grand choru3, "Unfold y<Portals Everlasting." The final rehearsal will be held in the Town Hall on Thursday at 8 o'clock.
