THE COURT-MARTIAL AT GORE. <Bt Toleiraoh.—ProM Association.! < Gore, August IT. The court-martial on Sergeant-Major Sutton, of tho Permanent Staff, charged with conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline, in that on' July 30, when ordered by Captain Glendining to proceed to Balfour, as his headquarters from August 1, he replied: "I refuse to do so," or words to that effect, was continued last evening. Sergeant-Major Sutton's evidence was to. the effect that Quartermaster-Sergeant Graham informed him, on his alighting from the train at Gore, that he was to proceed to Balfour for the purpose of selecting a house, and get two tenders for the removal of his effects. Witness left tho same day for Balfour, but returned tho next morning, reporting his inability to get a house, none l>cing available. He was ordered to get tenders for tho removal of his furniture, despite his inability to get a house. Witness laid tho facts of his mission beforo Captain Glendining, and expressed tho opinion that the Department would have to make other arrangements. This was 6n July 2!). Captain Glendining asked witness pointblank whether ho would go to Balfour or not. Witness asked Captain Glendining's permission to eee the group officer for the purpose of complaining of Glendining's bearing towards him, but was refused. lie replied to Captain Glendining: "No, sir; I do not refuse duty, because I cannot go to Balfour. There aro no quarters there." Glendining said: "You go lioine, and consider yourself under open arrest." Mr. Cochrane, for accused,- addressed the Court, which then adjourned to deliberate. On resuming, it was stated that the Court would adjourn further proceedings, jn order to consult Colonel Bauchop, Officer Commanding the District.
