CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.
MOTOR-CAP ACCIDENT. (By Tolcerapli.—l'rcss Association.) Christchurch, August 18. The criminal .serious of the Supremo Court wore continued I his moruine bei'ore Mr. Justice Doimislon. A middle-ngcd man named • Thos. Guy was charged with manslaughter arising out of the death of Annie Dunn, in a motor-car accident at Sydenham on Juno 2D last. Tlio Crown Prosecutor said, in outlining the case, for the Crown, that deceased s death was alleged to have boon caused liy neglect and carelessness on tho part of accused. It was r. cose which, in the interests of the public, should be investigated. Guy hud been driving a motor-ear along Colombo Street at about G o'clock in the evening. In order to avoid some cyclists he had crossed over to tho wrong side and in doing that ho ran into the old lady, knocking her down and killing her. The question wns whether, under the circumstances, it was reasonable for accused to exorcise, a greater degree of care. The Crown did not allege that the speed was excessive. His Ilonour said the question was not so much whether it wns negligent of accused to go on to tho wrong side, but whether, being on tho wrong side, he exercised reasonable care, After a brief retirement tho jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
