MR. M'ALISTER'S REFORM PAPER.
Sir,—ln reading Mr.M'Alister's reply to the statements made in the House of "Representatives, concerning certain professional work bestowed upon his firm by tho late Government, I obscrvo that ho remarks that he took no interest in politics, and was, as a matter of fact, a director of the "Southland Times," an Opposition (Iteforin parly) newspaper. No doubt, up to the tiino that Messrs. M'Alister, Hawke, and Anderson (Sir Joseph Ward's manager) becamo directors of the "Southland Times," the paper was against the Ward Administration, but let anyone since the advent of these gentleman to tho directorate peruse the columns of this paper, and say that its principles have remained unchanged. What is to bo deplored is that hundreds read this paper, believing it to support the best principles in political life, and for some time past these peoplo have been absorbing an adulterated form of this. ThonNtnds of peoplo in Southland complain that there is no daily paper from which they can faithfully interpret what the side thev support in the House is doing.— I am, etc., SOTJTHLA"NDER.
