RUGBY FOOTBALL THE ATTRACTIONS TO-DAY. The much-discussed match between Oriental and Athletic is being played at the Athletic Park this afternoon. Petone, Athletic, and Oriental aro all within one point of each other, and this game will either give Petone the championship, or (if Athletic wins from Oriental), require a meeting between Athletic and Petone to decide the championship. For this afternoon, Oriental aro unfortunate in that Fred Eoberts will bo unable to play, while Murray, who has been laid up for a few days, is doubtful. It is thought that this will interfere with, their chances, although they have a couple of good men to draw on whom, it is hoped, will rise to tho occasion. Si. James meet, 'Wellington on No. 2 ground. Early matches, commencing at 1.30, will be played if the ground is fit. Patrons are notified that seats may be reserved in the grandstand as -usual. THE FIEST SHIELD MATCH. (By Telceraph.—Press Association.! Auckland, August 16. . The fiTst Ranfurly Shield match of the season will be played at Alexandra Park to-morrow afternoon, when the representatives of Taranaki will endeavour to wrest tho trophy from Auckland—the present holders. Tho teams aro: Auckland—Full-back, O'Leary; threequarters, M'Gregor, Stowart, andMacky; five-eighths, Ifwerson and West; half, Wobb; winger, Hall; forwards, Tresize, Sellais, Wilson, Cunningham, Bruce, Carroll, and Barrett. Taranaki—Full-back, Colman; threequarters, D. Cameron, Roberts, and Stohr ; live-eighths, M'Lood and Cameron; half, Brown; winger, Taylor; forwards, Dewar, Cain, Smith, Kissick, Young, Hawkins, and Whittington.
