Miramar, Miramar. WANGANUI-TARANAIU. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wanganui, August 15. Wanganui.and Taranaki played a representative hockey match to-day. The conditions were- almost ideal, and Wanganui won by three goals to ono, Tho Wanganui ladies scored a rather lucky win over Taranaki ladies by two goals to one. A NORDEN CUP MATCH. (By Telegraph.-Spccial Correspondent.) Masterton, August 15. At Lansdowne to-day, the Norden Cup hockey match, Wairarapa v. Horowhenua, resulted in a win for Wairarapa by 5 goals to nil. The weather was fine, and the ground good, and thero was a largo attendance. In the first spoil the home team wore a much superior combination, their backs being very good. Horowhenua pressed on several occasions, but lacked finish and lost several good opportunities. In tho second spell tho game was more even, and well contested, tho visitors apparently being much improved. Tho home team, however, pressed them towards tho finish, and, scored a goal. The final result w-as:—Wairarapa, 5 goals; Horowhenua, nil.
BOXING.
HANNAN AND MAXWELL. Says the association note:—A large "houso" is anticipated to-night at tho Town Hall, when the : postponed tournament of August 7'is being held. Maxwell, who has 'taken. Murphy's place at -short notice, arrived' by last night's Main Trunk, and reports himself in first-class condition, well able to do himsolf justice against his formidable oppoueut. Hannan, too, has kept steadily in training, and is expected to make the best showing yet put up by him in Wellington. The tenround preliminary between Rogers, of Wellington, and "Gnat" Williams, of Tokoniaru, should prove a good attraction. The former has appeared before local patrons previously, and, on each occasion, has mado a good impression, while his opponent on this occasion is well known as having met most of the better lightweights of tho Dominion.
GOLF.
WAIBARAPA LADIES' EVENT. (From Our Special Correspondent.) Featherston, August 14. The semi-final of the Wairarapa Golf Club Indies' championship was played today, and resulted as follow:—Miss Madge Tweed beat Miss Collins, 2 up and 1 to play; Miss A. I'oareo beat Mrs. W. E. Bidwill, -1 up and .1 to play. Tho final will be played to-morrow. Sirs. Guy Williams won the medal competition, Sliss Lucy Brandon the -approaching and putting competition, and Sliss A. Tearec the driving. In a previous report of the second round of the ladies' championship played at Rolov.vai on Tuesday ihe result of the game beuvcon Miss Tweed and Sliss Gould should have appeared as a win for the-former by one up at: the Mth hole. Featherston, August 15. The final for the Wairarapa Gulf Club's ladies' championship was played at Rotolawai links today. Sliss A. I'earco winning isom Miss Madge. Tweed by S up

Supporters of the proposal urge that the course. is superior to the, Thames, the Tarra, or that at Stockholm.

LAWN TENNIS.
