HASTINGS NEWS.
The first Town Board for Havolock was elected yesterday, the result' of the polling being as follows:—T. Mason Chambers, 186; .T. A. l'othan, 17!); H. Joll, 173; li. Cooper, 172; K. A. Mossman, 153; A. H. Vale, 133; .T. pinion, 92. Nearly a hundred orchardists visited the Government experiment farm at Arataki this week for tho purpose of witnessing a demonstration in pruning and spraying fruit trees. This was carried out by "Mr. J. Campbell, Government inspector. Commissioner Richards, head of the Salvation Army in the Dominion, arrived in Hastings yesterday afternoon and,was met at the railway station by the Mayor (Mr. J. Gnrnett), Councillor Hart, and the local Salvation Army officers who extended hiin a cordial greeting. A formal civic reception was given tho Commissioner in the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. During his stay here Commissioner Richards will be the guest of'the Mayor. '
