Mr. George Bolton, a pioneer settler of 1841, ami lather of Mr. i\ G. Boltou, solicitor of this city, died at the hitler's residonce in Tinnkori Head on Tuesday night, aged 78 years. The deceased, 'who was bom ut Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, arrived iu Wellington in company with his parents in the ship Clifton in 1811, ami with the- exception of one. break, during; which, wiHi hundreds of others from Wellington, ho tried his fortune on the Victorian, and Utago goldfields, ho has resided here* The deceased was a builder by trade, and up lo a. couple of years ago look a lively interest in the extension of Hie city, which he had seen grow almost from ft state, ol nature. As. a young man, Mr. Bolton was very keen on "athletics, 110 was at one time a- very excellent exponent of cricket, and represented the province in the days when players wore not considered peculiar if they ventured on the field of play wearing top hats and whiskers. Jlr. Bolton, who lived for many years in Jlolesworth Street, was predeceased by his wife two years ogo. Jlr. 1 ,, . G. Bolton is Hio only son. The funeral will leave his son's residence at !) a.m. to-morrow.
From fifty-six applications, the. Blenheim Borough Council selected Mr. John Sturrock, C.E., at present borough engineer at Napier, to fill a similar position at Blenheim. Mr. Sturrock's first important work will bo tho installation of the water niul sewerage scheme—Press Assotion.

Jlr. and Mrs. John Hessey, of Jlasterton, who are touring the Dominion, arrived in Wellington yesterday by tho Maori from Lyltclton. They leave to-dny for Auckland.
