LAWN TENNIS.

BIG SEASON AHEAD. 'Hie coming tennis season promises to be a most, interesting one. As is known to 'all who follow the game, tho Davis Cup is to be played ill Melbourne on November 28, 29, and 30. The Americans have practically dccided not to venture a second time across the Pacific, but there is every possibility of' a strauff English representation coming out to play for tho cup, for so long held by the Mother Country. Among the names of those mentioned as likely to make tho trip, are Jackson, Gore, Barrelt, and Beamish. Tho | Davis Cup match this year will bo about as interesting to New Zealanders as it was last year, although it is being played in Melbourne, as the English team is likely-to-be faced by the same team which' outclassed the American contingent, at Christchurch; Another interest will be added in. the possibility of the cup matches being played over ntrain by the star' players of England aim Australia at the Australasian tennis championships to be held at Hastings (Hawke's Bay) in Christmas week". Nothing is definitely known yet as to whether tlie English team will find time to come to New Zealand, but those interested think it probable that they might make the (rip, mid it is hardly conceivable that Norman Brookes (singlr.s champion) and Heath and Lyeett (doubles) will let their-titles go without a struggle, even though it will not take place on their native heath.
