HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT.
1 'A' meeting of the Hutt County Council was held vesterday morning, the chairman (Mr. J. Wukcham) presiding. 'The question of removing the sheepyards which encroach on tho western Hutt Road, was brought up before tho council by Mr. James Ivilmister, of Belmont. Ho urged that the yard bo removed in order to avoid accidcnts to people using the bridge. It was decided, that the chairman and Councillor Welch, and the inspector (Mr. J. W. . Cudby) should inspect tho yards to-day for the purpose of ascertaining what can be done in the matter. As tho Upper Hutt River is unfordable at times, and in consequence settlers and travellers are put to considerable inconvcnience, the council has decided upon the construction-of a Teinforccd concrete bridgo over the Moonshine Ford. The construction of the bridge, is to be carried out in accordance with the plans and specifications of Mr. Laing-Meason, C.E., of Wellington. The bridge,- the erection of which is to be commenced at once, will be 210 ft. long (six spans of 40ft. each), and will have a clear width of 14ft. From Pahautanui the ford is seven miles and the bridge will link up -that district with tho Upper-Hutt. Mr. Laing.Meason's estimate, of the cost is .£2168,. and the council accepted a tender yesterday which is very near to that amount. The bridge will bo tho first Teinforccd, coucreto. structure .of tho kind in the Ilutt county. Last year a larger bridge on the saino principle," was constructed over the Ruamnlinnga River, Wairarnpa, from a design by Mr. Laing-Meason.
