■TWO FACTORIES. That the .dairy-farmers in the Wair.v rapn have had a very profitable season during the-past year, is being borne out by the annual reports of the various dairy companies. At Taratahi the amount of milk received during the season was 4,192,5811b., bring ■ 477,1411b. more than the previous ytar.' Biitter-fat produced amounted to 163,730.911b., the milk showing a percentage of 3.90, and produced 421,6111b. of cheese; equal to 188J tons, an increase on last season of 21J tons. Bach pound of bntter-fat made H.571b. of cheese, the milk averaging 9.941b. to each lb. of cheese. The advances during 1 the season amounted to Is. per lb. of butter-fat, totallingi£Blßfi 10s. 7d., leaving for distribution ,£2302 9s. 2d., equal to 15Jd. .or 15.375 d. per lb. of bntter-fat 1 . over the whole season. The' directors have made provision for the payment of 6 per cent, on the paid-up capital..' Instead of writing off anything for, depreciation, the directors decided to pay for'the new boiler out of this year's expenditure, and also to WTite up to the piggery plant account only a portion of the cost of'additions made at the beginning ,of the seasm. Messrs. Bairstow, M'Laren and Whittakor are the retiring directtrfs. \ At Belvedere tlio milk received totalled 5,585,1871b., a decrease. _on the past year of 127,7631b. Butter-fat'averaged 3.88 per cent., and amounted to 216,105.211b., being 6353.31b. less than last reason. The cheese made was 578,0151b. equal to about 258 tons, an increase on last season of over tons, and each pound of butter-fat averaged 2.671b. of cheese, and it took 9.621b. of milk to make one pound of cheese. The whole of the ouput was graded first grade, and prices as high as 70s. 7d. were obtained on the London market—easily a record for 'the company. During the season advances up to Is. per lb. of butter-fat were made to suppliers for milk, amounting to, ,£10,805 os. Id., leaving for distribution ,£3320 7s. 2d., making for the whole season 15 11-16ths or' 15.C575 pence per lb. of butter-fat. The directors have written off .£O3 3s. 4d. for depreciation of plant and 1 buildings, and set aside 6 per cent, as a dividend on paid-up capital. Messrs. JI. O'Heilly and A. Callister are the retiring directors.
There are prosperous times ahead for Dairy Factories-if prices remain as favourable as at present. There is still greater prosperity in store for the factories where "Victor" Vats are installed.
