FIRE-FIGHTERS AT PLAY.

SERVICE AWARDS. The happiest of relations exist between the members of the Wellington Municipal Fire Brigado and the Wellington Firo Police. All through the winter a , scries of card' tournaments have been played between the two ■. sections of fire-lighters, each of the five city and suburban sections being visited in turn. Tho entertainment ou tho?e occasions was provided by the police. Last evening tho compliment was returned by the brigade, which entertained the police at a "social" and euchre party in the Central Station. Tho brigade orchestra had played a selection, Mr. Charles Reid had sung a song,'and the euchre tournament had progressed some distance, when, an alarm of fire in Ouba Street (reported elsewhere) put on end to things. Later in the evening Captain Wright (of the Fire Police) presented the following awards to members of tho brigade:— Certificates for threo years' service, Messrs. Maloolm Gillies, Win. E. Biggs, Wm. Dixon. Frank H. Goodwin, Hem'jr I Perkins, and Amos Ogden; two-year service bars. Superintendent H. Tait (11 yoars); Deputy-Superintendent J. Stewart (11 years); Third Officer ,T. 11. Reynolds (nine yenre); Station Oflicpr C. R. Robertson (seven years). A five years' service medal was presented to Brigadesman Joseph Harlen. Another presentation was made during the evening—a seven years' service gold medal to Mr. R. W. Brown, of the Fire Police This wns made by Superintendent Tait, who referred to the very helpful wnrk done at fires by the members of the Police, ns instance tlm fm> which had occurred that nieht (in Cubn Street).
