A boy named Arthur Wellington had tho misfortune to slip on the asphalt while- playing at tho Campbell Street School to-day, and broke his leg. A Military Board, comprising Colonel Chaytor, Majors Cochrane and J. E. Hume, conducted the practical portion of the "C" Territorial examination for officers, of the New Zealand Staff Corps today.' Tho candidates wero Captains W. C. Morrison, C. G. Poles, F. G. Hume, J, T. Bosworth, and F. H. Lampen. "Burns and- Their Treatment" was the subject of an instructive address given bj Nurse Lonegan last night, before members of St. John Ambulance Nursing Guild. The subject was , treated very lucidly. A special meeting of the ■ Palmerstoi Working Men's Club was held last evening, when a vote of condolence was passed ed to the secretary (Mr. W. Hunter), iii connection with his recent bereavement. ■ At tho meeting of the Palmerston Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterdaj it was decided to call tenders for competitive designs- for. the proposed Olc Men's Home at Awapuni, at an approximate.cost 0f..£5000. The.amountfor flrsi prize design ivas fixed at £iO, and for sec ond .£2O. The tender of T. Griggs and Son, J2825, was accepted for the erection of a consumptive"atinexe"for women at the. hospital.
Professor Mills will speak at the meeting of the Brotherhood on Sunday afternoon in the New Theatre. His subject will be "The Tragedy of Service." Special reference will be made to, and. a retiring collection taken up for, the sufferers through the recent tramway- accidents. Mr. J. Bewley ; will .sing. '• The" meeting will be open to men and wqnien.
