After a few weeks in Loiidoa they intend going to Devon, and then to South Wales. • Mr. Charles Blomfield, of Auckland, who has been in England and on the Continent for somo months past, left for New Zealand via. New York by tho Baltic last .week. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Bond, of Hamilton, wlio have visited Paris, Brussels, the North of England, Scotland, and Ireland, contemplate visiting Holland and Germany before leaving for New Zealand on September 26. Barraud, of Wellington, who, accompanied by his wife, Miss Barraud, and Miss Wright, reached England recently, spent some time in Ceylon, Egypt, .Italy, Switzerland, and Holland before coming on to England. Mr. and Mrs. A. Paterson, of Wellington, have been in the Midlands since their arrival at the end of last month. They will visit Scotland and Canada before leaving for New Zealand in September. Shearer, of Taranaki, who arrived by the Orama, will remain in London for another week, then visit a few places in Scotland- and Ireland, and hope, before leaving for New Zealand, in September, to visit Paris. : , . After visits to friends in Gloucester and Monmouth, Mr. Derrett will probably leave London for New Zealand in November. - Among the New Zealanders present at the reception.given last week by Captain and Mrs. Boyd'-Carpeuter were the High Commissioner and Mrs. Wray Palliser, Sir James Mills, Lady Mills, and Miss Geraldine Mills, Mr. A. D. Lubecki, Mr. and Mrs. W.' Kirkcaldy,' Miss Isitt, Lady Stout, Miss Stout, and Dr. Stout,' aud the Earl and Coutess of Hardwicke. , Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Heald, of Auckland, arrived in London a few days ago. They left New Zealand as long ago' as October last,-and have stayed in Sydney, Melbourne, and a number of places on tho Continent before coming to London. They now purpose staying for some time in London, after which they will pay a round of visits to relations in Yorkshire ond Cornwall'. - ■ Mr. G. S. Otway, of Auckland, arrived on May 20. Ho came over to the OldCountry chiefly for the sake ■jf'his health, and when he arrived found that a serious operation was necessary. This was performed, in Dublin on May 28,. most successfully, and Mr. Otway has mado a rapid recovery. He hopes now to visit places of interest in Ireland, England, and on the Continent, returning to New Zealand.at tho end of the year. 'Mrs. J. Thornhill Cooper, of Christchurch, and her elder Eon, arrived on Juno 8, and were met by her other son, who has been away for a considerable time, studying wool in Germany and England. They then went to the Continent, and after seeing. Paris left for Roubaix. Mrs. Thornhill Cooper and her elder son are at present in Lille, and expect to return to England via Belgium, Germany, and Holland, and from thence to return to New Zealand! Mr. George C. Maltby, of Dunedin, ar- ? fl £ er ? eftrly in A t ,ri1 ' aftw spending a fortnight in Northern Italy' and the Kiviera en route. After a week in Lon™n'.Mr- W.. C. Harley, of Nelson, and Mr. Maltby crossed over to France and spent five weeks motor-cycling through that country and Switzerland, covering altogether 3000 miles. Mr. A. W. Every, of Dunedin, Mr. Harley, and Mr. Maltby' now propose motor-cycling through Devon and ] Cornwall' Wales and tho Scottish Highlands. They will probably return to New Zealand about the end of the year.

Mr. Albert H. SutclifFe, of Palmerston .North, arrived in London on May 4 with his daughter, Miss Rita Sutclilfe, who has been, very ill, and was ordered, by her medical adviser, a long sea trip. They -havo visited relatives in Manchester and Blackpool, and go to Norway to visit friends in about a fortnight. There .they expect to bo for al>out a month, and after returning, go on the Continent for a month. They will visit. Devonshire and other parts of England before returning to New Zealand, via Vancouver, tarly in November.

Dr., Mr?., and Miss Palmer, of Wairorapa, who arrived by the Somerset, are at present in London, where Dr. Palmer is doing post-graduate work at London hospital?.' It was of great interest to him to discover that his mother's uncle, Alderman Luca.=, was president of St. Bartholomew's Hospital in the early years of last century—a life-size oil painting of this gentleman hangs in the hall, and a ward is named after him; he was Lord Mayoi of London in 1827. Miss Palmer is studying music under Professor Pollard of the Royal Academy of Music. Mr. C. R> Orr Walker, of Auckland, has returned to London after a month's motor tour, of England, Wales, and Scotland. He motored some 2000 miles along the South Coast to Wales, the English Lako District, and the Highlands of Scotland, thenco through Yorkshire, Derbyshire, and the Thames valley. Mr. Orr Walker's future programme consists of ' a tour through Gennany, by way of the Rhine, end a three weeks' trip to the' Norwegian Fjords, Sweden, and Denmark. IJe leaves England for America on August 13, and expects to reach Auckland at the end of. September. Among tho students of Cambridge University who figured prominently in the

class lists issued a few days ago wore six New Zealanders) each whom has taken an honours' ,degree. Mr. N. SI. Bell, of Christchu'rch, took first-class honours in Classics;' Mr. E. J. Wilson, of Auckland, a first in modern languages; Mr. G. 11. Bovan Browne, of Ohristchurch, secondclass honours in natural scienco; whilst Mr. W. T. Morton, of Auckland, Sir. A. C. Jacob, of Feilding, and Mr. A. E. Stout, of Wellington, obtained both Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees with honours in both.
