CITY COUNCIL.
7 rOKTNIGHTLY MEETING. The Wellington City Council met last night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Laren), Councillors J. Smith, If. Cohen, G. Ifrost, J. Trevor, J. Godber, E. Trcgcar, J. Fuller, J. E. Fitzgerald, G. Shirtciiffe, B. Fletcher, A. It, Atkinson, L. M'Kcnzie, E. A, Cameron, and W. H.P. Barber. The Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board is to be informed that the Council will exchange tho strip of laud at Salamanca Road for the board's land at the corner of Molesworth Street and Tinakori Hoad (taken for tramway purposes) and the fire station site at l'ipitca Street, on payment by the board of the sum of 4200. The city engineer is to be instructed 1 to erect a fence at the right-of-way off Hayes Street, Brooklyn, leading to the library, etc., at an estimated cost of £7. as required by. a, covenant in the transfer of tun land. ' On the recommendation of Hie Finance Committee, it was decided: "That Mr. J. .T. Boyd's claim for ,£2OOO for damage alleged to liave been caused to his property, Childers Terrace, bo not entertained, but that he be informed, without prejudice, that tho city engineer will make reasonable accesses from the road." The Abattoirs Committee reported that they had carefully considered the requests of the Master Butchers' Association referred to them by the council, and had to report, among other things: "That they cannot see their way to entertain tho request that one of the master butchers be appointed as advisory member on tho committee, or that he be allowed to be present whilst the committee is considering matters affecting the butchers." The application of the Wadestown Electors' Association for the fencing of vacant land at the zig-zag at Titt Street, Wadestown, was grouted, the Association undertaking to clear tho land of gorseand plant and keen same in order. The Hataitai Electors'' Association is to be informed, in reply to their application for trees for planting at Waipapn Tioad, that it is regretted that there aro no trees available for planting this year. It. was resolved (hat consideration of the Reserves Committee':! report chould lit held over till next meeting.
