GREYTOWN.
The ordinary meeting of. the Greytown Borough Council was held on Monday evening, tho Mayor presiding. A letter was received from the Commissioner, of Crown Lands, stating, that lie had not given authority for tho,blish on the'Waiohino watershed reserve to bo felled. The council intend repairing and altering tho present drains, so as to prevent such an accumulation of storm water as was recently experienced. 3lr. Joseph Oates, an old settler in the Wairarapa, who lived for some time on Taiuuata Island, Waihakeke, died suddenly this week. His. wife , predeceased him by a few months. Ho leaves a son and two daughters.. Ho had intended proceeding with his brother-in-law (Mr. C. J. Jury) to the South Sea Islands for a change on Friday next. As Mr.' H. Evans was motoring from Greytown to Martinborough on Tuesday, the cap tamo off ono of the wheels; avid the wheel became detached. With the assistance of those in the car, howover, the wheel was temporarily fixed on, and a return, made to Greytown.for repairs.
