August C, 11.5 p.m.) Chicago, August G. 1 Tho opening session of Mr. Roosevelt's i National Progressives' Convention, was held in the Coliseum yesterday, amid wild ; enthus"'nsm. After the opening prnyer, Senator Boveridge, the temporary chairman, attacked tho "boss-ridden, old parties" of i the professional politicians, and stated that tho issue was social brotherhood versus savage industrialism. Mr. Roosevelt lias not appeared in the Convention, though he has been accorded an enthusiastic reception in Chicago. The Convention expelled the southern , negroes, who indignantly appealed to Mr. Roosevelt.
