The deputation, which was representative of all the tribes iu New Zealand, was introduced by the lion. Dr. l'omare. They extended their congratulations to Mr.'Massey, wished him every ■success in his now sphere, and expressed Hie hope thai: hn would not .show favour to one rnco more than to the other. In reply, Mr. Mnssey said he appreciate! their cordial congratulations, and tile fact that they hail come to offer Iliein in . person. The deputation could depend upon it lliat 110 injustice would 1)0 done to the Maori race. llis desire was to encourage, them in fettling their land, and io assist, them in working it. If the Maoris had laud to' sell, they should get the market value for it, and if they had land for lease, the highest possible rental should be paid for- it. He would always ileal equitably with the Maoris, and thero would be oply pne justioo for all races in the Dominion.
