ST. MARK'S MEN'S SERVICE.
At. tho monthly service for men only, held at St. Mark's Church, Sussex Square, on Sunday afternoon last the vicar of the parish (the Ilev. C. F. Askew) delivered an address to tho large congregation <>:i public worship and the observance of the 'Sabbath. There were, he said ,at the present time many men who professed to be Christians nnd yet claimed that they saw no reason to make a public acknowledgment of it by attending public worship. Men at once began to go back in theii spiritual life as soon as fhey become indifferent to public worship. A man began a downward course immediately he forsook the observance of the Sabbath, Though absolutely necessary for the moral welfare of man, it was also necesrory foi the bedy, as tho entire physical force required and demanded one day's rest in tho week. Costermonfters said that the donkey which worked six days of' the week could do SO miles a day, and was a fine healthy animal, yet the one whicli worked seven could only do 15 a day .ind was a sickly animal. The nation that neglected tho observance is on a downward grade, and ho instanced Prance, Riving statistics to prove tho ossertion. The body needed a. rest as much as a sevenday clock needed a weekly winding. Tlk death-rate of Jews in America was hall the ordinary rate, and that was because they relifrionsly observed the day of rest, But he did not advocate a day of rest in bed or lounging about. Ho said they needed a proper rest of body and soul by o religious observance of Sunday as a day of public -worship. A solo was rendered at tho commencement of the eeryice bj Mr. B. P. Bray. On Sunday evening the vicar preached 'his. third sermon on the moral and spiritual difficulties of life, and his subject was "Is life a Tragedy ?' J
