AUCKLAND EXHIBITION.
(By Telegraph-Special. Correspondent.) v ~ „ Auckland. August 4. jNoiv that the necessary Order-in-Council has been issued, permitting tho. .holding of tho Auckland. Exhibition iii 1913-1914, activity in connection with the big function is becoming apparent. With tho growth of population since the Exhibition of 1898, it is considered safe to assume- a very much larger attendance at the forthcoming one. The site chosen in the outer domain for the buildings is an -ideal spot a-s the surroundings are vory beautiful. The buildings are estimated to cost between O!l3,fion and ,£16,000, whereas those of the last Exhibition cost. ,£.">000. The figures quoted givo on idea of tho sizo of tho forthcoming project. Tho sum of 4:0000 was guaranteed by citizens towards the last Exhibition, but not one penny of this was called up by the management. So great is the confidence as to the success of tho coming Exhibition that the sum of ,£17,000 has already been guaranteed by citizens and local bodies. Tho buildings for the coming Exhibition will be much more elaborate than was the case last time, and loss formal in design, consisting, as they will, of a large central block, surrounded bv other buildings arranged in a semi-circle. Beautiful gardens and lawns will be laid out, and these- will 1)8 lit up at nijfht by gas and electricity. The Works Committee of tho City Conn, cil has favoured o tender of J21600 for excavating work on the fiit*, and when the contract is eomilleted no time, will l>B lost in startiiiß the new buildings. Xo tenders will bn called, for tlra executive intend to appoint ,a builder to superintend the buildinir operations. The various comiuilleos which hove boen formed will soon commence to meet rpjfiilarly io formulate pious for (lie various departments in connection with the Exhibition. Much of the success of such a project depends upon the entertainment provided, and the Music and Kntertaintnout Committee will shortly meet and discus? a frrenfc variety of ideas with regard to side shows.
