Continuing her journey from Grcymouth to Wellington, the Mapourika arrived at Westnort at 3 a.ro. yesterday. She left for Nelson and Wellington at 10 a.m., and is due here about 5 p.m. to-day. Dr. Mawson's Antarctic exploring ship Aurora was to have left / Lyttelton -on Thursday for Melbourne, but it is understood that her departure has been postponed until early next week. An arival in port from Newcastle, via Lyttelton, yesterday morning, was the Melbourne Steamship Co.'s steamer Brisbane. She berthed at the Miramar Wharf to dU-chargc coal for the local gasworks, and left for Mercury Bay last evening. It will bo August 12 before the New Zealand Shipping Co.o steamer Whakatano arrives at Auckland from Montreal, via way ports. The delay has, been caused on account of bad weather, aud also owing to the fact that she has'an exceptionally heavy cargo to discharge at Sydney. On completion of discharge. at Auckland, the Whakatano comes on to Wellington. Folowing are), the current-freight rates per ton quoted for coal cargoes from Newcastle to New Zealand ports:—Auckland, 95.; Gisborne, 16s. Bd.; Napier, 10s. 6d.; Wellington. J.;. 6d.; Wanganui, 135.; Lyttelton, 10s.; Timnru, lCs. 6d.; Dunodin, 10s. 6d.; and Bluff, 10s. 6d. The ruling rates of freight from Newcastle for foreign ports are:—Sau Francisco, 205.; Honolulu. 17s. 6d.; Acapulc.o, 215.; Guayraas. 215.,- Callao, 275. 6d.; Valparaiso. 275. 6d.: West Coast Itaiice. 2?;.; Manila, 12s. 6d.; Singapore, lis.; and Java., 12s. Moana, s.s., at present undergoing overhaul at Port Chalmers, starts from there on August 14 for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Sydney, taking the Moeraki's run. A remarkable inquiry was made in Liverpool last month, says tile London "Shipping Gazette," namely, for a steamer to be taken on time charier for twenty years. Quite recently a vessel was fixed on timo charter for nine years 'at three shillings and nincpenco per ton dead weight, which is somewhat of a record period of time charter. A departure from Auckland for London at 6.40 a.m. yesterday was the Tyser liner Muritai. The coastal steamer Wootton is expected In port from Nydia Bay to-day. It Is probable that she will leave on the return journey thi3 afternoon.
