ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) Christchurcn, July 31. At tho Addington Live btocK Jlarset today tuere. were omy small entrios of 6tock in almost, all dopartmeuts, but a good attendance. There was a.good demaud for. tho tow fat lambs aud freezing sheep offered, as the Canterbury factories iiioso down at the end of, next week, August 9 being tho last day for receiving stock. Store .sheep, except for tho best class of ewes, were easier. A few lines of fat lambs brought last week's rates, aud fat sheep sold at an advance of fully Is. per licacf. Fat cattle sold with more keenness in bidding, and very prime sorts showed improvement in values. Fat pigs eold well, especially porkers. Tho yarding of store sheep was a very email one, indeed quite tho smallest recorded at Addington during the current season. Tlio entry included a few lines of hoggets, half a dozen small pens of wethers, the balance being cwos. The laat named included a couple of specially good lines of ,2 and 4, 6 and 8-t-ooths respectively. 'For all' descriptions, excepting the good ewes referred to, there was a lack of animation in the bidding as compared wit>i tho previous week, and some lines of hoggets, failing to reach the owners' reserves, wore passed at auction, but wero afterwards sold privately. Hoggets were a shade easier than on the previous week, and the same remarks also apply to the wethers on offer. These, however, were all of medium class. Tho two linse of ewes already mentioned were well competed for, 2-tooths realising 225. 7d., and 4, 6, and 8-tooths 21s. Id. Other quotations arc:— Two and 4-tooth wethers, 16s. to Its. 3d.; a line of wethers, in low condition. 14s. 7d.; aged ewes, 6s. 6d. to 9s. lCd.; wether hoggets, 13s. to 13s. 6d.; owo hoggets, 15e. 6d. to 16s. Id. Only 340 fat lambs were penned, the quality being only moderate. There was a good sale for all classes at lato rates, togs making 17s. to 19s. 9d.; ordinary freezers, lfc to 16s. 9d. A mixed yarding of fat elieep (about 'equal to last week's in point of numbers) opened at rates in advance of those ruling on July 24, the presence of an outsido buyer adding more briskness to tho competition. Prices generally were fully Is. highor, ewes especially selling woli. The range of prices was:—Extra prime wethers, to 555.; prime, 21s. to 245.; others, 16s. 4d. to 20s. 6d.; extra prime ewes, to 325. 6d.; prime, 19s. to 235. fid.; others. 13s. to IBs. 5a.; merino wethers, 13s. Id. to 20s. 9d.; merino ewes, 12s. Two hundred aud twenty-six fat cattlo were penned, as against 267 on th« previous week. The quality on the whole was good, some being of a very superior grade, and, for the best, the prices obtained were the highest recorded at Addington Yards for sorao time. The sale on the whole was muoh brighter than anv held, hut prices in general were unchanged, except for the very best descriptions. Beef realised 245. to 31s„ and extra, to 325. 6d. per 1001b. Steers made £7 17s.- 6d. to £12; extra, to £12 Is.; heifers. £7 5c to £11 2s. 6d.: cows, £5 ss. to £9 2s. Cd. The yarding of fat cattlo was of fair dimensions, and included a consignment of mixed ages and quality from tho south The demand (no doubt on account of t.ho approach of spring) showed a distinct improvement.
