Nearing the corner of > Valley Road a tramcar aiul a gig, both > coming from town, were approaching at i a good puce. A standing hcrse anil cart near the footpath hid from tho view of ( a liitlc girl of six the fast approaching [ car and gig. Stepping oiT the footpath j she essayed to crov, the ru;ul, and iinniediatelv she found herielf almost in front of the approaching danger. . A spectator ; of the little girl's dilemma was a young ; man, -Mr. S. Bush. Quick to appreciate her danger, and quite regardless of tho risk ho ran, ho sprang to the child's assistance. Crossing the rails in front of the approaching car .Ml. iiusli vji;;nl tlio child and had barely time to throw her clear c-f the danger before he himself went down under the hoofs of the horse, which was being driven in, tho gig. Ho was struck by tho shaft of tho vehicle, and while on tho ground one of the wheels * passed over his Ijody. Fortunately, it ' was a very light conveyance, or he would ; have probably been more seriously * in- ! jured. As it was, he was picked up in a i semi-conscious condition, and medical * assistance had to bo summoned. lis' was - attended to by Dr. Moir, and found to bo suffering from a dislocated collar-bone ; ami other injuries. - Mr. Bush was coni voyed to his homo, and will, the doctor . says, bo incapacitated for a month at ; least. The little girl escaped injury.
